Lindsay Feldmeth Westra has been involved in international ministry for more than ten years. A trained opera singer, she began her outreach by hosting a Bible study for music students in Austria. While singing opera concerts in Italy, she raised money for AMALA, a ministry for disadvantaged children in southeast India. She then raised more than $30,000 for abused children in the USA by singing benefit concerts for Child SHARE. She recently taught a music workshop called Joyful Noise for AIDS-affected pre-schoolers in Botswana. Her music has allowed her to travel internationally and she has been a soloist at worship services in twelve countries.
As a writer, Lindsay is a regular contributor to five different websites, including her own blog, the Globetrotting Soprano. Her poems and articles have appeared in publications such as Translucent Words and German World Magazine. She has helped other musicians create marketing materials and utilize social media to publicize events. She has also produced dozens of brochures, reports and support letters for Christian organizations and church missions’ committees.
She authored a series of “Adventure Books” for foster children published by Royal Family KIDS: Follow Your Dreams (2008), Build Your Castle (2009), Find Your Treasure (2010), and Superhero Training Academy (2014). In addition, she wrote a three-year Bible-based curriculum for children ages 7-12 with games, puppet scripts and Bible skits.
She has also been a successful grant writer for Royal Family KIDS and Hope Partnership Nepal, after completing a course in grantwriting with the Foundation Center and a course in Support Raising for Missionaries with fundraiser Henri Moreau. She directed and raised support for two international music festivals; in 2009, she won a Davis Project for Peace Prize for her work in Nepal.
Her father, Dr. Nate Feldmeth, is a professor of church history at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. As his teaching assistant, Lindsay coaches graduate students in how to write historical research papers. She is also her father’s primary copy-editor for his presentations and publications; she edited the first manuscript of his book, Pocket Dictionary of Church History (2008, InterVarsity Press).
She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in opera from the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. She has also completed coursework in English, Italian and German at Northwestern University, the Istituto Italiano in Florence, and the University of Vienna. She has additional professional experience in translation, proofreading, editorial services and graphic design.
She is married to the Rev. Rick Westra of Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Artesia, California. They have a two-year-old son.
